Code Name Verity

Wein, E. (2012).  Code name Verity. New York: Hyperion.

During the beginning of World War II, two friends prove their loyalty to each other. They are Julie and Maddie, one a British spy and the other a pilot. Julie is captured in enemy territory and about to live a spy’s worst nightmare. Julie is held prisoner in an Ormaie, France hotel where she is forced by the S.S. to give up information. But little do they know that she has given them lies within her story and Maddie’s friendship. Meanwhile, Maddie has managed to stay alive in France and is plotting with resistance members to free Julie and other prisoners. But before being executed, Julie is able to get a message to Maddie. Maddie in return makes a stunning sacrifice to spare her friend a torturing execution.

A great captivating story of two friends, their friendship, courage, and survival and how far they go to save each other. A book for ages 14 and up. Other books written by this author include, The Pearl Thief, Black Dove White Raven, and The Pearl Thief.
