Billy Bloom is a gay teen and gutsy fabulous drag queen. Having
just moved to Florida with his dad, he plans to make a great impression at his
new school. But the classmates are not quite ready to accept him for who he
really is. He fails to make an impression as the new student, instead becomes
the target of bullying and violence. With the help of a friend, he is
determined to challenge the norm and decides to run for homecoming queen. He
runs against the most popular girl in school.
Though he goes thorough moments of self-doubt he survives and classmates
learn to accept him for who he is.
A realistic fiction that with a strong message to struggling
teens that have issues with gender identity. Billy not only overcomes his
self-doubt, but serves as an inspiration to others to confront that self-doubt
and to be who they are. Recommended for grades nine and up. Another book
